How to evaluate accounting software

Five things worth checking on any platform, including this one, before you commit.

Compliance depth for where you operate

General-purpose accounting tools often bolt on tax compliance as an afterthought. If you're GST, VAT, or sales-tax registered, check whether e-invoicing, e-way bills, and return-ready reports are native features or a separate add-on.

Inventory costing, not just stock counts

Tracking quantity on hand is table stakes. If you carry perishable, lot-controlled, or serialized inventory, you need FIFO/standard costing and expiry (FEFO) tracking - not every accounting platform includes this at any price tier.

Who can approve what

As a team grows past one or two people touching the books, maker-checker approval workflows and role-based, location-scoped permissions stop being 'nice to have' and start being how you prevent mistakes and fraud.

What's actually included vs. a paid add-on

Compare the sticker price, then check what's gated behind a separate per-user or per-feature charge - extra seats, bill pay, expense claims, and premium reports are common places pricing quietly grows.

Where your data lives

A cloud workspace means access from any device but requires connectivity; a desktop license works offline but ties you to one machine or local network. Pick based on how and where your team actually works.
