The problem
Keyboard shortcuts in most business software are either an afterthought bolted onto a handful of pages, or a flat list that doesn't account for who's actually allowed to do what - showing a shortcut for an action a given user can't perform, or worse, letting a shortcut skip a confirmation or approval step the equivalent button enforces.
How AccountDesq solves it
Every shortcut routes through the same permission checks, confirmations, and approval rules as its equivalent button or menu item - there's no separate, less-guarded keyboard path to a privileged action. The shortcut list itself is filtered live to what a given member's role and plan already allow, so it never advertises an action someone can't take. Most shortcuts are customizable to a single key or a Ctrl/Cmd combination; two-key G-then-letter sequences aren't reassignable yet. Record-specific actions (Issue, Void, Edit on the record you have open) surface through a keyboard icon in the top bar instead of the global list, since they only make sense on that page.
How it works, step by step
Open the Command Center
Ctrl+K from anywhere - including mid-form - searches commands, records, and pages.
Navigate with G, then a letter
G I jumps to Invoices, G C to Customers, and so on - only for pages your role can actually see.
Create with N, then a letter
N I opens a blank draft invoice, N C a blank customer record - nothing saves until you fill it in.
Check what's available
Press "?" (outside a text field) for the full, permission-filtered shortcut list, with the option to remap most of them.
Connected to the rest of AccountDesq
Nothing here works in isolation - it posts through the same ledger as everything else.
In practice
A bookkeeper working through a stack of vendor bills stays on the keyboard the whole time - G B to the Bills list, N to start the next one, Ctrl+K to jump straight to a specific vendor by name mid-task - without a single shortcut skipping the approval check that would otherwise apply if a bill crosses their amount limit.
What this means for your business
- Faster for anyone who prefers the keyboard, without a shortcut ever becoming a way to skip a control the mouse path enforces.
- The shortcut list only ever shows what a given person's role and plan actually allow - no dead-end shortcuts for actions they can't take.
- One command palette (Ctrl+K) reaches pages, records, and actions, instead of memorizing a different shortcut per module.
Frequently asked questions
Can keyboard shortcuts bypass approval or confirmation steps?
No - every shortcut does exactly what its matching button or menu item does, including the same permission checks, confirmations, and approval routing.
Are shortcuts the same for every user?
No - the shortcut list is filtered to what a given member's role and plan already allow, so it never shows a shortcut for an action they can't perform.
Can I customize shortcuts?
Most shortcuts can be remapped to a single key or a Ctrl/Cmd combination. Two-key G-then-letter navigation sequences aren't reassignable yet.
